Location: Spearfish Regional Facility
Status: Full-time, Monday through Friday Day shift
 

We are seeking a reliable and skilled Full-Time Transit Dispatcher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong telephone etiquette, and a passion for customer service. You will be responsible for coordinating transportation schedules, answering customer inquiries, and assisting with daily operations using technology and transit management systems. The position requires the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and a solid understanding of the communities in western South Dakota to provide the best service. On-the-job training. Prior dispatching or customer service experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and dispatch transit vehicles in a timely manner
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and team members
  • Provide superior customer service, answering calls and resolving inquiries
  • Utilize technology to track and manage transportation schedules
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of dispatch activities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the local communities in western South Dakota

Requirements:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in telephone etiquette and customer service skills
  • Ability to use technology and transit software
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Knowledge of the western South Dakota area and its communities

Pay: From $17.50 per hour

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Driver must be able to read and write legibly to record rider names, addresses, pick-up & destination
locations, mileage, time and complete forms and records.
Articulate speech and excellent hearing are essential to communicate with patrons, co-workers and to identify vehicle and traffic noises.
The driver musthave the physical ability to push common wheelchairs and stoop, kneel or stand to assist patrons.
The incumbent is required to work in inclement weather with fluctuating temperatures and varying precipitation levels.
Must be able to work under time constraints and meet deadlines.
Must be able to learn and follow passenger safety techniques while using lift equipment.
The driver must be willing to comply with the random drug/alcohol testing according to established policy.
Drivers must meet the requirements to correctly use and secure all passenger securements in the Prairie Hills Transit fleet.  Any occurrence of failure to use securements will result in points against your record using the Safe Operator Program.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:  Completion of high school or equivalent required.  Previous passenger bus driving experience preferred.  Technical Skills: Demonstrate the knowledge, ability and skills required to be able to understand, influence and serve people.  Must be able to work under time constraints and meet deadlines.  Required to possess or develop knowledge of streets in many communities.  Must understand and be able to communicate requirements and guidelines to passengers. Safe driving habits and vehicle use a must.

Other qualifications/certificate/license:  The Driver must possess or be willing to obtain a valid South Dakota CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with a P (Passenger) endorsement within 30 days of hire, must have or be willing to obtain certification in CPR and training in First-aid procedures within 30 days, passenger sensitivity, defensive driving, wheelchair ramp/lift use and securement procedures, fire safety training and evacuation training.

PC Competencies: Ability to learn simple computer data entry on required forms.
